How to reference articles in APA format

How do you create references for journal articles in APA format? If you need to write a psychological paper, then you will probably have to list several different articles in the magazine. Such articles summarize the results of studies and experiments of researchers on a huge number of topics.

In most cases, you will probably need to create references for at least five or more journal articles for each paper in APA format from which you will be asked to write.

The APA format contains a set of clear rules for listing articles that appear in academic journals and other periodicals. Article citations will vary depending on where the article appeared and who authored the content. When you communicate with an online essays for sale service, they take care of all the writing. Although many of the articles you will use in your references are likely to appear in academic and professional journals, you may also find articles in magazines, newspapers, and online publications.

The reference section is one of the easiest places to lose points due to the incorrect APA format, so always check your references before submitting your psychological papers. Learning reference articles in the appropriate APA style can help you throughout your study of psychology. See the rules and instructions for referencing articles in APA format.

Basic structure when referencing a journal article in APA format:
Start by listing the author's last name and first initials, and then the date of publication in parentheses.

Provide the title of the article, but only use the first letter of the title. Then state the journal or periodic and the number of volumes in italics. Finally, list the page numbers where the article can be found.

For example:

Author, IN (year). Article title. Title of journal or periodical, volume number, page numbers.
or

Smith, LV (2000). Submitting articles in APA format. APA Format Weekly, 34, 4-10.
Journal articles:
The structure of an article that appears in a journal is similar to that in a journal. However, the publication date should include both the month and the day of publication.

For example:

James, SA (2001, June 7). Journal of the journal in APA format. Newsweek, 20, 48-52.
Newspaper articles:
References to newspaper articles follow the basic structure, but use the initials p. or pp to indicate page numbers.

For example:

Tenski, JA (2004, January 5). How to quote newspaper articles. The New York Times, p. 4D, 5D.
APA format for journal articles with two authors
If the article has two authors, follow the basic format for a journal reference. Put a comma after the first start of the first author and then an ampersand (&). Then include the last name and the first beginning of another author.

Example:

Mischel, W., & Baker, N. (1975). Cognitive transformations of rewarding objects through instructions. Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, 31, 254-261.

APA format for journal articles with three to seven authors
For journal articles with three to seven authors, follow a similar format as with two authors, but separate each author and initials with a comma.

The final author should be preceded by an ampersand. Follow the same format for each additional author up to seven authors.

For example:

Hart, D., Keller, M., Edelstein, W., & Hofmann, V. (1998). Influences of personality in childhood on socio-cognitive development: A longitudinal study. Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, 74, 1288-1289.

Keller, JL, Smithfield, KB, Ellis, M., Michelina, R., & Bels, S. (1987). Biased anchor restrictions. Journal of Market Research, 17, 115-119.

APA format for journal articles with more than seven authors:
Individual and multiple author citation rules apply to all sources, whether the material is from books, journal articles, newspaper articles, journal articles, or online sources.

If the article contains seven or more authors, list each author separately.

If there are more than seven, include the first six, then include ellipses (...) instead of the author's name before specifying the final author.

For example:

Jones, H., Smith, P., Kingly, R., Plathford, RH, Florin, S., Breckherst, P.,. . . Lightlen, PS (2012). How to submit an article to more than seven authors. APA Format Today, 17, 35-36.

Articles without authors
If the article does not list any authors, start by giving the title of the article, then the date of publication, source, and URL if you accessed the article electronically.

For example:

Scientists are looking for a source of creativity. (2012, March 6). Dayton County. Retrieved from http://www.daytoncountynews.com/news/39756_39275.html

More tips
If possible, include the DOI (Digital Object Identifier)   number at the end of your reference.
If the DOI number is not available and you have accessed the article online, provide the URL of the log home page.
